Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Protecticoat last?
Protecticoat is warrantied for 12 months when applied correctly. Most customers reapply annually as part of routine maintenance, or sooner if the surface shows signs of wear. The protective layer resists UV damage, oxidation, and fading between applications. One 14oz can covers approximately 60 square feet, so a single application of a full kit typically protects a medium-sized RV or tractor for a year.
What is Protecticoat?
Protecticoat is an clear and colorless acrylate polymer solution that applies evenly and rejuvenates the appearance of many different surfaces with a faded and/or oxidized exterior, restoring depth to color-infused products while adding a sheen to oxidized surfaces. Protecticoat works on fiberglass, painted surfaces, and plastics. The more oxidized, the better. Common applications include recreational vehicles (RVs), tractors and other equipment, lawnmowers, metal lawn furniture and fencing, metal buildings, and virtually any item that was originally manufactured using single state paint. The product will penetrate the pores to bring back the deep, rich colors and will adhere to and seal the surface to prevent future fading and oxidation caused by the sun, salt spray, and other environmental contaminants. The product is clear in color and can be applied to any color of finish. Once cured, wax may be applied on top of the coating for even more shine and protection.
How is Protecticoat different from wax, ceramic coating, or a regular sealant?
Wax typically lasts a few weeks, most sealants last a few months, and ceramic coatings are designed for new clear-coated cars — not faded RVs, tractors, or outdoor equipment. Protecticoat is built specifically to bond to oxidized and faded surfaces, restore them, and protect them for a full 12 months. It works on surfaces that wax and ceramic coatings can't effectively treat: gel coat, single-stage paint, plastic, vinyl, and rubber.
What is the application process for Protecticoat?
Please read all instructions before applying. That being said, the process if very simple. Thoroughly clean the item to be coated using dish detergent or comparable cleaning soap, let it dry, spray it, let cure for 24 hours. That’s it!!
How many coats are required to achieve and even finish?
This will depend on the level of oxidation and damage that the surface has experienced so far. Protecticoat should be applied in several light coats until the desired appearance is realized. Spraying in heavy coats will cause the product to run.
Can I use Protecticoat on my car?
Protecticoat is designed for single-stage paint and raw surfaces — RVs, motorhomes, boats, tractors, ATVs, patio furniture, equipment, and outdoor plastics. For modern passenger cars with clear-coat (two-stage) paint, other products are better suited. If you're not sure whether your surface is single-stage or clear-coat, contact us at (478) 224-0242 before applying.
Can I apply it myself, or do I need a professional?
Protecticoat is fully DIY-friendly — most customers complete a project in an afternoon. Clean the surface with OmniClean first, then spray Protecticoat evenly from 8–10 inches away and let it cure for 24 hours. No special equipment or training required. The Starter Restore Kit ($35.99) includes everything a first-time user needs for a small to medium project.
